Although many great campgrounds to choose from in Maryland, we have managed to find two of the best.

Below we have briefly described each campground, and we have spoken of the facilities and activities you can look forward to.

Additionally, we have also included the dates, times, and rules so that you are aware of them before making a booking:

1. Frontier Town Campground

The Frontier Town Campground is one of the largest campgrounds in Maryland, with 584 full hook-up RV sites and plenty of activities to keep the family occupied.

This campground is conveniently located along the spectacularly beautiful Sinepuxent bay, which is only five miles from the tourist hot spot Ocean City.

If you need entertainment while on holiday and want a relaxing yet action-packed holiday experience, the Frontier Town Campground could be the best choice. At this campground, there are numerous amazing activities you can participate in.

Some of these include checking out the jaws prop exhibit, spending a day in the sun at the waterpark, and enjoying a competitive round of mini-golf.

Additionally, you and your family can also fulfill your dreams of a western experience at the campgrounds Western Theme Park. There are wild west shows, and there is even a native American village.

At the Frontier Town Campground, there are also many facilities you can look forward to.

A few of these facilities include a camper-only swimming pool, a dog park, fishing charters that offer inshore and offshore trips, a marina, numerous nature trails, and playgrounds.

Times:

For campsites, check-in is at 2:00 pm, and check-out is at 11:30 am.

Dates:

The Frontier Town Campground is open throughout the year, but their closing day for 2021 is November 28th until the new year.

Rules:

• At the campground, no more than six persons per campsite are allowed.
• Boats and boat trailers are permitted on campsites, but only if they fit within the set parameters.
• All pets have to have valid and current rabies tags, and they need to be leashed at all times.
• Quiet times are between 11:00 pm and 8:00 am.
• Guests are allowed to start a campfire and have it going between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm.
• Explosives and fireworks are not permitted as fireworks are illegal in Maryland.

2. Lake Somerset Campground

If you want a relaxing holiday in nature that will allow you to visit some of the best nature sites in Maryland, you should have a look at the Lake Somerset Campground.

You will be close to the Wellington State Wildlife Management Area, the Pocomoke River State Park, and the Hickory Point Natural Area at this campground.

Additionally, the Lake Somerset Campground has a few worthwhile activities and many modern facilities and amenities. 140 full hook-up RV sites are equipped with 30 and 50 amp connections and many private tent sites.

Moreover, this campground is affordable, with a daily fee of approximately $45 and a monthly fee of approximately $1000. They also have storage facilities that cost $75 per month.

At the Lake Somerset Campground, you can participate in fishing and paddle boating at the private pond, hiking on one of the numerous stunning trails, or enjoy a relaxing day by the swimming pool. Nearby there is also a local petting zoo if you want to take a day trip into town.

The campground also has modern site facilities that include a clean bathhouse, a tiki deck, a playground, and a convenience store.

Times:

The check-in times are flexible, but check-out is strictly at 12:00 noon.

Dates:

Off-season dates are between October 1st to April 30th, and seasonal dates are between May 1st to September 30th.

The campground is closed over November and December.

Rules:

• Fishing is permitted in the campgrounds stocked pond, but it is strictly “catch and release.”
• Guests are not allowed to ride skateboards or gas-powered bikes.
• No guests are allowed to wade or swim in the pond.
• No guests are allowed to use gas-powered golf carts.
• Dogs have to be attended at all times and on a leash at all times.
• Quiet hours at this campground are between 10:00 pm, and 8:00 am.

Can You Go RVing in Maryland Outside These Dates?

In Maryland, there are many private campgrounds and State and National parks that have varying open dates.

Above we gave an example of a campground open seasonally and a campground that is open year-round.

There are many campgrounds and State and National Parks that are open year-round, but it is up to the discretion of these campgrounds whether or not they open seasonally or all year. Additionally, there are also KOA campgrounds in Maryland that are open all year, but they are usually more expensive to stay at.

Where Can You Camp For Free In Maryland?

Unfortunately for those on a budget, there are not too many places available where you can camp for free in Maryland.

Many free camping places are few and far between and don’t have many nearby activities or facilities.

Are You Permitted To Camp On Public Hunting Land In Maryland?

Unlike other states in America, camping on public hunting land in Maryland is not usually permitted.

It is up to the department’s discretion if they will open certain department hunting lands to campers.

If you want to camp on public hunting land, you will need to contact the relevant Maryland department in charge to make arrangements to camp.

Maryland Camping And RV Rules For Local State Parks And National Parks

Often planning a camping holiday can be a daunting task as you have to consider many different factors that could affect how much you enjoy your vacation.

One of the factors you need to remember to keep in mind concerns State and National Park rules. Knowing the park rules will ensure you are prepared and know what you can and cannot do at a Maryland State and National Park.

Below we have found some of the most important Maryland State and National Park rules you should be aware of before deciding to stay at one of the many beautiful options available:

• Six persons are allowed per drive-in site with three tents and two registered vehicles or one vehicle and a trailer.
• Group sites have a limit of 7 to 25 people who all have to register.
• Quiet hours are from 10:00 pm until 6:00 am.
• All fires have to be extinguished with water regardless of where they are located.
• Generators are not allowed to be used during quiet hours, and generator noise levels must not exceed 60 decibels at 50 feet.
• All visitor rubbish needs to be disposed of in the dumpsters the park provides but rubbish must be separated from recyclables.
• All cyclists under 16 years of age need to wear a helmet.
• No person can camp at a Maryland State or National park for more than 14 consecutive days.
