Rooftop tents are great for getting away from the regular traditions of tent or RV camping.
However, most rooftop tents can only accommodate up to four people at maximum comfort.
This can be difficult for large families as a long-term camping solution, but rooftop tent camping is an amazing way to go on adventures!
Here are the Most Common Dimensions for Rooftop Tents:
Most rooftop tent dimensions have an interior sleeping space of about 5-10ft in length with a 4-7ft width. When open, the interior height is roughly 3.5-5ft tall, with a closed height during transit of 6-13inches tall. This gives users a lot of room to decide which tent will fit their needs best.
|Rooftop Tent Brand||Interior Length (From Head to Feet)||Interior Width||Height (Open/Closed)|

|Skycamp Mini by iKamper||6ft||4ft||4ft/13in|

What is the Smallest and Biggest Rooftop Tent?
If you are a family who loves to go on adventures in the great outdoors, a couple who travels with only each other, or someone who travels alone, your needs are going to be different.
A single camper or couple will probably want to invest in a small, easy-to-use tent that they can manage alone, while a full-sized family will want a larger tent.
We’ve found a few good tents, both large and small, to check out!
Largest Rooftop Tent:
The largest rooftop tent we could find is the GentleTent Sky Loft for 5-6 users!
This huge, 10,000 sq inch tent is perfect for large families with an equally large vehicle to haul the tent around.
The GentleTent Sky Loft rooftop is about 11 feet long and 7 feet wide, with an interior roof height of about 5 feet.
This tent only weighs 100 lbs even with its large size and comes in both blue and olive tent material! It also is made of two separate “rooms” from breathable materials such as polycotton.
Its lightweight design may cause the materials to be quite thin and therefore only best for summer camping, but the quality is reported to be very good!
This is an amazing camper-van or passenger van tent to give you extra sleeping and working space.
If you have a larger vehicle, this is the one for you.
Smallest Rooftop Tent:
Small rooftop tents might be too cramped for three or more people, but they are perfect for a single camper or couple.
This affordable tent at $1,500 is only 7 inches tall when folded down during transit and is 3.6 feet when opened up.
It weighs only 105 lbs and is made from mold and rain resistant fabrics that are lightweight and durable!
This is a great option for the single camper or couple as it is incredibly easy to raise and fold down during your trip and gives plenty of sleeping space for two without having to deal with a huge tent.
Do Rooftop Tents Work for Tall People?
Rooftop tents can be very spacious for taller users.
Depending on the type of yet you get and how many people join you on your trip, you should have plenty of room to stretch out at night.
Just don’t try to stand up in the tent.
Roofnest Condor XL Rooftop Tent:
This tent is made for four adult users to use at once, making enough potential room for taller campers to use.
This tent is 93 inches in length and 74 inches in width, making it 7.75 ft long and 6.1 ft wide. This is a great tent for taller users!
The Roofnest Condor XL is made from durable, waterproof materials for rain, wind, and sun, as well as an included ladder, storage space, and removable pockets, as well as plenty of windows and ventilation for those gorgeous summer days.
The Condor XL also comes with a 6cm built-in mattress to keep you warm and comfy inside.
How High are Rooftop Tents When Collapsed?
Most rooftop tents are very short when collapsed to perch upon a roof rack safely during transit.
The rooftop tent must remain collapsed and small enough not to cause too much wind resistance.
That is why rooftop tents are between 6 and 13 inches when collapsed.
This keeps them close to the roof of the car, and therefore safely secured to your vehicle.
Can you Sit up and Stand up Inside Rooftop Tents?
Sitting up in a rooftop tent is possible for even users who are six feet tall or a little more.
Standing or kneeling, however, is not as easy.
Most rooftop tents are three to five feet tall on the interior when the tent is opened. This means that at best, you can kneel and move around inside the tent, and at worst, you can only sit straight up in your sleeping bag,
If you are an individual who is six feet tall or more, you should invest in a rooftop tent that is tall enough when opened up.
The Roofnest Falcon tent is a great option for taller users, as its interior is 60 inches or 5 feet tall when opened. It can comfortably sleep two people and has ample space for sleeping bags and bedding.
Another option for a smaller rooftop tent with plenty of height is the Skycamp Mini rooftop tent:
Skycamp Mini Rooftop Tent:
This tent is great for sitting up because it has an interior height of about 4 feet tall!
This rooftop tent weighs 125 pounds and has a width of 54.82 inches by a length of 57.28 inches.
The tent features insulating poly-cotton canvassing, which makes it breathable, and the rainfly is made from polyester 150D, making it waterproof.
